Bridging Gaps to Land Conservation

Land protection doesn’t happen overnight. Local land trusts and other conservation organizations first identify ecologically rich or otherwise important natural spaces in their communities. Often, these transactions take extensive negotiations and fundraising to purchase an easement or property. Some transactions may be in the works for years, only to be stymied when a last piece of vital funding is missing.

At Atira Conservation, we specialize in bridging these final funding gaps.

We effectively work with partners on meaningful land conservation transactions. Thanks to our lack of bureaucratic barriers, we can quickly make funding decisions in the face of time-sensitive land negotiations and purchase deadlines. And by partnering with local organizations, we ensure that land conservation easements and fee-simple purchases remain protected and managed in perpetuity, providing enduring environmental benefits for people and wildlife.

Choosing Lands that Matter

Atira Conservation founders Nicole Adimey and Brett Irwin carefully select lands to ensure that they have ecological value — meaning lands have unique habitats, are adjacent-to or connected-to other conservation lands, are important areas for specific plants and animals and/or shelter a diverse variety of species.

Assessing Ecological Benefits

As a wildlife biologist with degrees in marine biology and habitat management. After graduate school, Nicole enjoyed a 30-year career working with endangered species recovery and habitat restoration programs. Her career focused on fostering partnerships and building bridges among stakeholders to bring conservation to fruition. She brings her extensive biological background and knowledge, along with her established relationships within the conservation community to assesses each potential land transaction and partner organization.

Maximizing Investment

Over a span of 30 years, Brett Irwin and his business partner acquired a 2.5 million-square foot portfolio of industrial properties that included more than 50 industrial buildings in the metro Atlanta area. Brett’s focus on contract review and financial due diligence provides key expertise for evaluating potential partners and land conservation projects. His knowledge ensures collaborative partners have the long-time viability needed to manage lands in perpetuity.
